Hard Water in the Home

Hard Water or lime in water is a common problem and present in water sources throughout Leinster. When you install a PWS water softener, you will solve all your lime problems which in turn will protect your plumbing system and appliances from expensive repairs and damage.

How Does a Water Softener Work?

The Limescale Problem

Lime Clogged PipeWater contains hundreds of different, natural constituents which have been dissolved while the water has travelled through various routes to your home or premises.

Calcium bicarbonate (lime) and magnesium salts are some of these constituents and when their concentration is greater than 100 parts per million; the water is said to be hard.

When these salts are heated they are converted to insoluble salts (or more commonly known as limescale) appearing as rock-like solid deposits on kettle elements, pipes, boilers and heating systems.

Limescale is the hard, off-white, chalky deposit you can see in kettles, hot-water boilers and the inside of hot-water central heating systems as a result of using hard water. It is also often found as a caked deposit on the inner surface of old pipes where “hard water” has evaporated as in this picture on the left. Limescale stains can also be seen on other surfaces like stainless-steel sinks, pots, pans and glassware. Other than being unsightly and harder to clean, limescale seriously impairs the operation or can eventually damage various components of the heating system.

These deposits act as a kind of internal insulation on your pipe work; reducing their efficiency and can eventually lead to serious damage of piping systems.

By installing a water softener, an average family of four can save upwards of €534 per annum. Maintenance of your water softener is as simple as adding softener salt once a month to the system.

Re-discover the simple pleasures of soft water:

  • no scale formations on your electrical and water appliances
  • softer on your skin and hair
  • softer on your clothing
  • your heating system will be 40% more effective
  • no ‘water-marks’ on your sinks, baths or toilets
  • no scum forming on hot drinks; with a noticeable taste difference
  • lower detergent costs due to the easier formation of lather

Water Softener Savings

Water Softeners do not “add” salt to the water, they simply use a salt water solution, in order to back-wash the filter, which is then rinsed with fresh water. Lime removal gives peace of mind and results in great cost savings. Red House Water Systems in Dublin will be happy to look after your water softener sales, service and aftercare requirements.

Although we have installed many different water softeners over the years, PWS water softeners have consistently proven to be the most reliable and efficient. Some of our systems are non-electric, some are twin-tank systems to ensure a continuous supply of soft water. Non electric water softeners have the added benefit of being easy to install plus there are no timers or computers to set, adjust, repair or replace!

A quality Water Softener will ensure your appliances remain limescale free and are not damaged by calcium deposits as well as ensuring no lime builds up in pipe-work, cylinder’s, radiators, boilers, and other parts of your plumbing system.

With a non electric system, of course you don’t have to worry about electricity power outages which is a major benefit. Cheaper competition may offer a 1 year guarantee but Perfect Water offer a 5 year guarantee plus most units are covered for 10 years.
